VICTORIA AUTO RACING HALL OF FAME

PRESS RELEASE:  FEBRUARY 11, 2011

The Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame, the first formed in Canada to be solely dedicated to highlight the sport of Auto Racing, is celebrating our 27th Anniversary in 2011.

The special ceremony will be held on Saturday afternoon, March 5th, 2011.  It will be held at the Station House Pub “basement” reception room, 737 Goldstream Avenue, Victoria, B. C.  It is a large area which will have a superb seating arrangement for all that attend.  Doors will open at 1:00 PM with the formal ceremonies commencing at 2:30 PM.  Admission will only be $20.00.  This will provide everyone with light refreshments being served following the ceremonies.  There will also be popular beverages available throughout the day plus other interesting activities.  Everyone will also be given a free souvenir programme and also an $18.00 ticket to a special racing event which will be occurring  at Western Speedway that everyone will really enjoy.  It will be the WILROC Sprint Lites, Stock Cars and the Old Timers (OTRA) who will be competing for the Haslam Memorial Hall of Fame race trophy.  The Hall of Fame Museum will also be open at no charge for everyone as well so that they can come in and enjoy all the historical displays and memorabilia on site.

This year for the first time in our 27 years of existence, the names of the 2011 Inductees are now released in advance.  The 3 will be honoured and join the 74 previously inducted persons in the Hall.  In addition, there will be 3 Pioneer Award recipients introduced who will be added to the 64 previous selections in the Hall of Fame as well.

Also this year, there is a special Press Conference planned prior to the event on Wednesday, March 2nd.  It will occur at 1:00 PM at the Station House Pub as well.  Also, there will be over 20 of the past Hall of Fame Inductees there as well as the ones being inducted on the following Saturday at the Hall of Fame function.  All members of the media contacts have been notified and hopefully a lot of them will attend.  There will also be some snack food available too.

The Motor Racing heritage on Vancouver Island dates back prior to the 1920’s.  It is rich in historical significance and the Hall of Fame Committee is extremely proud to be able to highlight the noteworthy personalities of the past on Vancouver Island and showcase the various significant accomplishments that have occurred.

Everyone is invited to attend this year’s event.  As always, it allows members of the Auto Racing Fraternity, their fans, friends and everyone interested in learning about the sport to come together and remember past happenings, renew old acquaintances, meet new ones, look at all the memorabilia on display and generally enjoy the get together.

For any additional information, please contact Ross Rockett at 250-652-1303 or any of the Hall of Fame Committee members as listed on the website.

Nov 1/10

At the recent AGM held on October 30th, 2010 a new Executive was elected. The Wilroc President for the 2011 season will be Sherri Conway, The Vice President seat will be held by Chris Root. Debbie Rendle will stay on as Sectetary/Treasurer and Randy Vincent, Guy Barrett and Pam Scott will be returning as Directors. Joining them will be Dale Erdman, Russ Lejeune and Mark Gall. The new executive will be effective December 1, 2010. A huge Thank You goes out to Russ Crawford, Darryl Morneau, Jesse Dardengo and Evan Graham for all their hard work during the 2010 season.

Also on the agenda this day was which tire to run for the 2011 season, It was decided that the Hoosiers would once again be the official tire, compounds to be determined at a later date. The Lite rules will be relatively un-changed for next year with the exception of a carb spacer being permited and some clarification required on the carburators. An alternative to the aftermarket stock head will also be researched. The rules should be finalized by early January 2011.

After much discussion and the presentation of the recent engine dyno tests for the wing cars it was decided that the use of injector restrictors will be used to even the playing field among the existing racers and to allow for a cheaper allternative to the present engines being run. Further testing and research is required before the final ruling which is scheduled to be completed by the end of January.
